Phase one Tire Test for SST
SST Racing Series: For those who have been keeping up with the drama surrounding the lack of support Hoosier has toward the Super Short Track Racing Series, Phase one, of finding replacement tires for the growing series has begun.
When the last checkered flag of event competition fell upon the BullRing of Wyoming County International Speedway last Friday evening, officials of the SST Series began preparation for their first tire test. Super Stock driver Bobby Lippa Jr. and his team entered the asphalt racing surface to receive simple instruction as to the amount of laps and procedure for the collection of data. The data will consist of several heat cycles, simulated by hot laps, heat races and feature event situations through out the next several weeks. The mounted tires will be used on several team cars for a well-rounded base of information.
The first test phase will utilize the American Racer Tire with the support of Fred Woodward of Lias Tire. Support from the manufacturer is key to the success of the Series and the teams that compete within it.
Bobby Lippa’s first response of the newly tested tire was positive in consistency and traction. SST Technical Inspector Dennis Murphy Jr was also pleased with the early results. Continued testing and data collection will move forward with the 10” tire of the SST Modifieds very soon, as the logistics of a new series tire get put in place.
